Ableton Live! – Time Warping for DJ use – DJ Kevin James

How to time-warp a song in ableton live. First part of a series on using Ableton Live! for DJing www.djkevinjames.com I will be posting a new video shortly. As I stated before, this is the long way of doing it. You can do it much faster without changing the project tempo, and using the warp from here option. Once you get the first few markers set, the rest of the markers pretty much fall in to place. For the people who said they don’t think I know what I am doing, I might not, but it works for me, and a couple thousand other people. Please post a link to how you do it, if you can do it better. -KJ

Warping tracks in Ableton is pain in the ass. The program is placing transients on like middle of a kickdrum and setting the start of a song to samekinda nonsense places its just so fcking frustrating.

Can you export the track once it’s warped to use in other software like Seraqto or Traktor?

@pabloarrangoiz69 you can always try a sound card more like Audio 8 DJ Audio Interface by Native Instruments

@mumbomum You arent suppose to ‘drag’ the warp markers is why. Right Click and 1:1 from there, and warp track from there in same menu.

@ChompTrax They should play on the downbeat correctly. Be sure that you have, “1 bar” selected along the top of the clip view screen so that ableton will know not to bring the clip in before the end of the bar

Yes when you click on the markers it will play from the markers on the first beat and keep everything sounding like it was never chopped up.

hey man, nice vid! i have a couple of questions…i’m new to using ableton and trying to learn warping. around 5:03 where you say “you can remix on the fly…”, are you clicking on the markers that are set from when you warped the track? if so, are they triggered on the downbeat just like playing a regular clip in Live? thanks for any help!
