It’s so powerful you can almost ignore the older softsynths because it can cover most of the same ground – although big patches can be processor hungry, so the older softsynths like Subtractor can still fill in handily for smaller jobs. The sound is good, but not earth-flatteningly massive. There are some clever effects, but there are so many softsynths available elsewhere now with so many features that Thor struggles to stand out sonically.

Also included is an arpeggiation module cannily called RGP-8 – perfect for trancers – and an updated sequencer with better automation and clip support. It doesn’t support audio loops, however – you’ll need to load them into a sampler module, which isn’t the most intuitive approach.

There’s also a unique ReGroove mixer. Expert sequencer users know that tiny timing and volume changes lock listeners in to the beat. With ReGroove a groove feel can be applied to an entire song – or each track can have a subtly different feel.

It’s a clever and original idea, and in gifted hands can breathe life into songs that otherwise sound mechanical and sterile already.

If you love Reason already, you’ll love the new features. If you’re new to sequencing and synthesis it’s a good entry-level environment, and for the price you get a fantastic range of virtual instruments and effects – almost literally a studio in a box.

The catch is that once you get more experienced, Reason’s rigid format starts to get in the way. Big patches suffer from endless up-and-down scrolling as you change settings. Reason’s improved sequencer still isn’t as polished as it could be. And it’s still odd that you can’t record and process audio with it.

Mac & OS X Users Don’t Get Treated Like an Orphan Anymore!

There are 28 million Mac users this doesn’t include those that run OS X on their PC’s, that’s equal to over 10% of the market.  Mac users are different from the average computer users, most didn’t buy their computer for games but for business related functions.  The popularity of the iPhone has increased the popularity of OS X, which in turn will add to the OS X market share.

I use my Mac for internet marketing and I’m sure many others do as well.  Yet, most of the internet marketing Guru’s treat us as if we don’t exist.  Here you have Guru’s preaching such things as back links, article marketing, content, traffic generators, article submitters, etc.,etc., but the fact is they are useless to Mac users.  Why? Because everything they offer is Windows based (the dreaded exe. format) which is the “kiss of death”  for us.

Let’s put them to the test!  They all preach finding niche markets to make profits on the internet, yet they ignore a niche market with 28 million users, but will spend a lot of time and effort selling things like “How to Keep Spot from Humping Your Leg”.  Well, if their as good as they say they are, how about marketing “Tools & Software for Internet Marketing on Your Mac”? Now I admit not all Mac users are into internet marketing, but many of the same tools and software are used in article writing, affiliate marketing, blogging and newsletters.

I say let’s use their own logic to force them to make these tools available to us!  How many times have you seen a Guru preach that if you sell XXX for $10.00 you’ll make $100 dollars a day if 10 people by it?  Well, if you had let’s say an article submitter for Mac and you hit 1% of the market of Mac users that would be 280,000 at $10.00 each that’s $2,800,000.  Most of those Gurus have never made that much in a lifetime, although they’ll try to convince you otherwise!  The above example doesn’t include the provision for repeat business by providing other software products or tools.  How can they pass up such a potential market?

Could Ubuntu Linux rule the future over Mac OS X or even Windows?

Ok. I must admit I just created a computer box with Ubuntu 9. I have been so impressed with this operating system, I started to wonder what was the future of Mac OS X or Windows. I don’t mean question them, but it seems there is lots of excitement behind Ubuntu. There are so many futuristic innovative features I have yet to find in the other mainstream operating systems like Windows or OS X.

Ubuntu is open source. Programmers and general techies love it. It is a very friendly geek operating system which is free due to its open source philosophy. There is lots of open source tools and network features. The interface is completely awesome to work with. I was also shocked how intelligent it was as I plugged in third party devices like my printer. Best of all, they worked with no hitches.

Going back to the feature set, the graphic user interface is friendly. Any monkey brain should be able to figure it out. If you are used to working with OS X or Windows, you should feel pretty comfortable with this. This includes running out of the box applications like Open Office. Open Office is free and open source. It is not quite as intelligent as Microsoft Office, but it does the basic jobs you would expect of Word, Powerpoint, or Excel.

If you need databases installed, you would obviously go with the stellar enterprise level MY SQL. You can install through a “Get program’ option. Since I am a geek head, I love using the session terminal with the ‘sudo apt-get’ command. It is so powerful but yet easy to install the required tools any tech head would need. This includes a developer like me.

I was able to set up a developers environment so fast. This includes the popular integrated development environment (IDE) like Eclipse, and programming languages like Ruby On Rails, PHP, Python, and Java. Also, you get the old dinosaur of C++.

As Linux becomes a standard, it seem Ubuntu is easily becoming a standard as well. Everyone talks about Red Hat (or Fedora) being a very popular flavor of Linux. But why? If you look at the Alexa ranking, Ubuntu exceeds Red Hat in traffic. It shows Ubuntu is gaining steam among the geeks. And remember, it is the geeks who makes the future of technology become mainstream.
